Kyrsten Lea Sinema is a well-known U.S. politician and social worker currently serving as Arizona’s senior United States Senator.

The former Democratic member described herself as a Prada socialist, and before joining the Arizona Democratic Party, she began a political career in the Arizona Green Party in 2004.

The U.S. Senator began her political career with the Arizona Green Party and made her progressive advocacy, including support for LGBT rights and opposition to the war on terror.

The U.S. Senator was a state representative for the 15th legislative district, a United States representative for the 9th congressional district, and a state senator for the 15th legislative district.

Arizona Senator Krysten followed Christianity and was raised as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church).

Krysten left the LDS Church after graduating from BYU. The U.S. Senator returned to Arizona in 1995.

The Arizona Senator earned a Master of Social Work degree at Arizona State University while working as a social worker. 

After graduating from Arizona State University College of Law with a J.D., she began working as a criminal defense attorney.

In 2002, the politician first ran for the Arizona House of Representatives, independently affiliated with the Arizona Green Party.

Krysten Sinema was born in Tucson, Arizona, on July 12, 1976, to Marilyn (Wiley) and Dan Sinema.

Her Father was an attorney. Krysten’s parents divorced when she was a child, and her mother, who had custody of the children, remarried. 

Krysten has an older brother and a younger sister. With her siblings, mother, and stepfather, the politician moved to DeFuniak Springs, Florida, a small town in the Panhandle.

After Krysten’s stepfather lost his job and the bank foreclosed on their home, the Senator’s family lived for three years in an abandoned gas station.

Krysten has also been reported to be the only non-theist member of Congress, although she has rejected the label.

The independent candidate is the first openly bisexual and second openly LGBT woman to get elected to the House and Senate.

Her Wikipedia profile shows the politician married and later divorced her BYU classmate Blake Dain.

Krysten competed for senior Executive positions at the state and local government level for a David Bohnett LGBTQ Victory Institute Leadership Fellow for the John F. Kennedy School of Government program by Harvard University in 2008.

Krysten is one of three independents currently serving in the Senate, the other two being Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Angus King of Maine, both of whom caucus with the Democrats.

On December 9, 2022, following the midterm elections, Krysten left the Democratic Party and registered as an independent.

Krysten is considered a centrist and a key swing vote in the Senate, split 50–50 between Democrats and Republicans in the 117th U.S. Congress.

In March 2018, the upcoming election candidate donated $33,800 in Campaign contributions from Ed Buck, a prominent Democratic donor, to charity.
